In my opinion, remaking horrors to look more modern isn't always a good thing. While special effects have come along way since some of them were made, I think the modern look often ruins horrors.

Chucky: OLD vs NEW:

(Everett Collection)

In my opinion, the new chucky doll, from 2019, on the right hand side of this picture looks fake. While the old chucky doll from 1988 looks like a real doll. With horror you want it to look real, making it look fake takes away from the scare factor, and in this case Chucky has just become a cartoon.

Freddy Krueger: OLD vs NEW:

(New Line/Warner Bros)

Again, in my opinion, the 1984 version of Freddy looks much scarier than the 2010 version. The make up looks realistic, like he actually has damaged skin, while in the 2010 version, he looks like he's simply wearing a mask. And Freddy is definitely not just another man in a mask.

Pennywise: OLD vs NEW:

(Warner Bros/bloody-disgusting.com)

Now I personally think the new Pennywise looks better, it looks more like the monster rather than a person dressed up like a clown. However, while I think Pennywise looks scarier, I do prefer the 1990 IT over the 2017 IT.

In my opinion newer doesn't always mean better. I think if horrors are going to be remade, they should be done so they can't be compared to the original, so they have a different twist so people who liked the original, don't feel let down by what the new version has become.

Thanks for reading!
